Rep. Rodney Alexander Signs Taxpayer Protection Pledge
Louisiana Congressman promises the people of his district that he will not vote to raise their taxes

WASHINGTON— Today Congressman Rodney Alexander (R-La.) signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, administered by Americans for Tax Reform. The Pledge is a written commitment to voters that he or she will oppose tax increases while in Congress.

"Today ATR applauds Congressman Alexander. Now voters in Louisiana know that they can trust Rodney Alexander not to raise their taxes. He has been willing to put it in writing," said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Rodney Alexander is the second incumbent member of Congress this year to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. With 218 signatories, the number of Representatives signing the pledge is nearing a majority. In addition to these members of the House, 42 Senators and President George W. Bush have all signed the Pledge.

"The Pledge is one of the most important tools that the taxpayer movement has," said Norquist. "With 218 signatories, it is going to be tough for would-be tax increasers to get anything through this House."

Of the two major candidates for President this year, only George W. Bush has signed the pledge.
