"Tax-Free PC Week" Earns
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge Taxpayer Hero of the Month Award
Governor signed "Tax-Free PC
Week" into law in 2000 WASHINGTON- This past Sunday marked the
beginning of the second "Tax-Free PC Week" in Pennsylvania.
Governor Tom Ridge (R-Pa.) signed the "Tax-Free PC Week" into
law last May. The states first "Tax-Free PC Week"
took place in August of 2000.
In response to this innovative way
of saving taxpayers money Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) has named Gov.
Ridge its Taxpayer Hero of the Month for February 2001.
Grover Norquist, president of ATR,
issued the following statement praising Gov. Ridge for his leadership
and his efforts to help Pennsylvania families move into the 21st Century:
"Last May, when Gov. Ridge signed
the Tax-Free PC Week into law, it became apparent that Gov.
Ridge was a friend to taxpayers in Pennsylvania.
"Pennsylvanias Tax-Free
PC Week accomplishes a variety of things. Among them, it
makes it easier for working families to purchase computers so that they
may take advantage of improved technology by bringing that technology
into their lives. In addition, it will increase Pennsylvanians
exposure to high technology, which will help the state to become a leader
in global technology.
"We hope that in the future Governors
and state legislators alike will follow Gov. Ridges and Pennsylvanias
lead and enact similar laws in their states throughout the country."
Americans for Tax Reform is a non-partisan
