Yesterday, Republican primary voters chose Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer Carly Fiorina as their standard bearer in the U.S. Senate race against incumbent Democrat Sen. Barbara Boxer. In a three-way primary, Fiorina defeated former Congressman Tom Campbell, who repeatedly refused to sign the Pledge, and Pledge signer Chuck DeVore.

Fiorina used the Pledge during the campaign to highlight the significant difference between her and primary opponent Tom Campbell on taxes. In fact, she aired a TV commercial close to primary day that specifically attacked Campbell for his record and his decision not to sign the Pledge.

Key Factor in Fiorina Victory: Fiorina Signed Tax Pledge, Campbell Did Not

WASHINGTON, DC--Yesterday, taxpayers rejoiced as Taxpayer Protection Pledge signer Carly Fiorina defeated former Congressman Tom Campbell, who repeatedly refused to sign the Pledge, for the chance to faceoff against incumbent Sen. Barbara Boxer in November.

Fiorina regularly campaigned on her decision to sign the Pledge and even included it in a TV spot that aired right before Tuesday’s election. The ad said, “Thinking of voting for Tom Campbell? Even though he refused to sign the taxpayer protection pledge? And pushed for higher gas, sales and income taxes? …Vote Carly. Instead.”

"Carly Fiorina’s victory yesterday against RINO Tom Campbell sends a clear message to the rest of the candidates running for office that if you are serious about lowering taxes, you sign the taxpayer protection pledge," said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform.

Over 400 candidates for federal offices have already signed the Pledge this election cycle. The Pledge commits signers to “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

“Sen. Barbara Boxer has done nothing to help improve the lives of Californians. California currently has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation at 12.6%. Her continued support of the failed policies of the Obama administration is unacceptable,” continued Norquist.
