Taxpayers in Tennessee's 3rd District Have a Friend in Congress: Rep. Chuck Fleischmann

Posted by Aaron Kennedy on Thursday, July 26th, 2012, 2:57 PM PERMALINK

As the August 2nd primary approaches, taxpayers in Tennessee’s 3rd District have good reason to be concerned. In 2013 alone, U.S. earners are scheduled to be hit with over $500 billion in tax increases.  A rate increase of this size would be detrimental to hardworking Americans nationwide.  In a year of such importance to taxpayers, Tennessee’s 3rd District deserves a candidate willing to stand up and firmly pledge to protect its families and small businesses from the tax hike and higher spending special interests in Washington.

Since first being elected in 2010, Rep. Chuck Fleischmann has been a friend to taxpayers in Tennessee.  Rep. Fleischmann signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge as a candidate in 2010 and has since voted consistently against raising taxes on the families and businesses of the state’s 3rd District.  A solid conservative candidate, Fleischmann received high marks from a number of leading conservative organizations including an 88% rating from the American Conservative Union, and an 86% rating from the Club for Growth.

Scores of this caliber rank Rep. Fleischmann among the top Republicans in Congress.  Perhaps most important is that by calling for the elimination of the Death Tax, Rep. Fleischmann has defended the rights of the families and small businesses of Tennessee to pass on what they’ve earned to future generations.  With over 471,000 small businesses statewide, the elimination of the Death Tax should be a priority to any wise Tennessee taxpayer.

Attempting to unseat Congressman Fleischmann in the upcoming primary on August 2nd are two candidates who refuse to make the same written commitment that Fleishmann has, to oppose any and all tax increases. By refusing to sign the Pledge, Scottie Mayfield and Weston Wamp have left the door open to higher taxes. They are leaving the families and small business owners of Tennessee’s 3rd Congressional District vulnerable to higher taxes in 2013 and beyond.

Tennessee voters would be wise to question the uncertain tax policy of candidates Mayfield and Wamp; and to consider the pro-growth, pro-taxpayer record of Rep. Chuck Fleischmann when heading to the polls next Thursday.

Two Candidates Sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in bid for New York's U.S. Senate Seat

Posted by Aaron Kennedy on Monday, June 25th, 2012, 5:37 PM PERMALINK

Attorney Wendy Long and Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in their bid for the Republican nomination in New York’s U.S. Senate race.  The winner of the Republican primary will face incumbent Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this November in the general election.

In a controversial 2009 appointment, Incumbent Sen. Gillibrand was chosen by then New York Gov. David Paterson to fill the vacancy left by Hilary Rodham Clinton as she accepted her new position as Secretary of State.  Sen. Gillibrand defended her Senate seat in a 2010 special election, from which she emerged victorious.  Gillibrand’s easy victory in 2010 came as a result of a struggling Republican field, which failed to nominate a first tier challenger and capitalize on an opportunity to win the temporarily vulnerable seat.

Though the Cook Political Report has rated the 2012 New York U.S. Senate race as “Solid Democrat”, Republicans believe that a strong fiscally conservative candidate will pose a serious threat to the incumbent Democrat’s supposedly safe seat.  As tomorrow's Primary approaches, two candidates meeting this description have emerged.

By signing the Pledge, Long and Maragos have made a written commitment to the taxpayers of New York to, “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

Three Candidates Sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in bid for Missouri's U.S. Senate Seat

Posted by Aaron Kennedy on Friday, June 15th, 2012, 2:06 PM PERMALINK

Former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, Rep. Todd Akin, and manufacturing executive John Brunner have signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge in their bid for the Republican nomination in Missouri’s U.S. Senate race.  The winner of the Republican primary will face incumbent Sen. Claire McCaskill this November in the general election.

The Cook Political Report has rated Missouri’s U.S. Senate race as “Toss-up”, while the Stu Rothenberg Report rates the race as “Tilt Republican”.  Incumbent Sen. McCaskill won the seat in 2006 with a narrow 50% to 47% victory over the Republican candidate.  In 2010, Sen. Roy Blunt won Missouri’s other Senate seat in a landslide 54.2% to 40.6% over Democrat Robin Carnahan, proving that Republicans have made huge gains among Missouri voters.  As Republicans look to gain ground in the Senate, McCaskill’s Missouri seat represents a major pick-up opportunity for the Republican Party in 2012.

By signing the Pledge, Brunner, Akin, and Steelman have made a written commitment to the taxpayers of Missouri to, “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”
