Dear Representative,
On behalf of Americans for Tax Reform, I am asking you to support H.R. 2828, the American Energy Act, introduced by Leader Boehner (R-OH). This crucial legislation will create thousands of American jobs, limit foreign dependence, and will provide more affordable energy while creating a cleaner environment.
The U.S. consumes approximately 7.5 billion barrels of oil annually. The American Energy Act will allow the Secretary of the Interior to grant natural gas leases in the outer Continental Shelf (OCS), which contains over 115 billion barrels of oil. This new access will create over 600,000 jobs, help reduce foreign oil dependence, and provide increased supply to reduce energy costs. Under this provision, a fraction of the revenue gained will be set aside in an energy trust fund to pay for a multiplicity of renewable and alternative energy programs.
In addition to other measures, the American Energy Act will advance the usage of cleaner and more reliable energy by adding 100 new nuclear reactors online over the next 20 years while prioritizing public health and safety. Expansion of renewable energy sources that the U.S. already utilizes is another key approach this bill takes. Tax credits for the production of renewable electricity, like wind, solar, and biomass would become permanent, encouraging a steady growth in all fields.
Millions of Americans are facing severe economic hardships and recognize the energy crisis the nation will face we don’t pursue a more responsible path. Your efforts and strong leadership is needed to help create a more certain future. Americans for Tax Reform urges you to support H.R 2828.
For more information, please contact Brian Johnson in my office at 202-785-0266 or bjohnson@atr.org or Justin Lampert in Leader Boehner’s office at Justin.Lampert@mail.house.gov to become a co-sponsor.
Onward,
Grover G. Norquist
