Ann Marie Buerkle, a candidate in 25th Congressional district in New York, recently signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge. Buerkle is currently the only candidate in the NY-25 race to take the Pledge, but we continue to reach out to all campaigns.

Buerkle is competing in the GOP Primary to unseat current Democratic freshman Congressman Dan Maffei. Maffei, though only being a Freshman, has proven he is no friend to the Taxpayer voting for the Pelosi-Obama-Reid Stimulus; Cap & Tax; and the House Health Care Bill, which contained numerous tax hikes on middle class families. Cook Political Report gives NY-25 a PVI rating of D+3, so the contest will be competitive in the general election.

With her signing of the pledge, Buerkle has made clear to the voters in New York’s 25th Congressional district that she is committed to protecting the family budget by holding the line against tax hikes. Congressman Maffei has made no such commitment to the taxpayers; ATR encourages all candidates that have not made this commitment to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

Ann Marie Buerkle (R-N.Y.) Signs the Taxpayer Protection Pledge
Congressional candidate promises to protect taxpayers’ wallets

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ann Marie Buerkle, a Republican running in New York’s 25th Congressional district, recently signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge sponsored by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). The Pledge commits signers to “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”

ATR has offered the Pledge to all candidates for federal office since 1987. To date, 34 U.S. senators and 172 members of the U.S. House of Representatives have signed the Pledge. Additionally, seven Governors and over 1,100 state legislators have signed the Pledge.

“After the passage of the so-called “Stimulus Package,” better known as the Pelosi-Obama-Reid Spending Give-Away, Americans are desperately searching for candidates and politicians that will protect their livelihoods and put their wallets ahead of the federal government’s coffers,” said Grover Norquist, president of ATR.

“By signing the Pledge, Ann Marie Buerkle demonstrates that she understands the problems of hard-working taxpayers nationwide, but especially the taxpayers in New York’s 25th district.”

“I challenge all candidates for federal office to make the same commitment to taxpayers by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge today,” Norquist continued.
