The following post originally appeared on www.fiscalaccountability.org, the Center for Fiscal Accountability's website.
Our friends at the Independence Institute came across an inventory of lost, stolen or damaged equipment as reported by the U.S. Department of Homeland Defense. Among the items listed as "lost," are 171 desktop computers, 119 laptops, and - get this - TWO FORKLIFTS! Yes, that's what the document lists coded as "L" for lost, among other things in a report that is 58 pages thick.
Jon Caldara, president of the Independence Institute, sent a copy of the inventory along with a letter to all members of the Colorado Congressional delegation asking the following:
Before the Federal Government again uses my children's money to buy new toys or to pay for water parks in Indiana, is it possible for the government to simply get a grip on the assets it already possesses?
Sounds like a good idea, doesn't it?
